Easy pourJan 19, 2010
By J. W. Dietrich Long ago I had a screw top glass lined vacuum thermos I had used for long car trips (12 to 24 hour trips) and remember that at 12 hours when I removed the top the coffee was still steaming hot. But on the negitive side when I dropped it the glass liner broke making that thermos usless.
So in comparison this steel lined doesn't seem to remain as hot for as long (maybe it could use a better vaccuum?). But without a glass liner won't break and become usless if dropped.
As with all vacuum thermoses must first pre-heat it with boiling water before filling with hot coffee or else coffee is cool in a couple of hours. With pre-heating the coffee is still warm, although not hot, about 12 hours later.
For me it's hot enough because I like to drink my coffee by the mouthful and not have to sip at it, but have it hot enough so that it feels very warm while drinking it.
My wife thinks after about 3 hours it's too cold without having to re-heat the coffee in the micro-wave. If pre-heated it does stay hot for several hours, but not what I would call hot after that.
Since I bought this as a gift for my wife, who likes to make a pot of coffe in the morning and still have hot good tasting coffee 6 hours later, it's only marginaly acceptable if there is a micro-wave nearby to reheat the coffee.
On the plus side it is easier to pour then one of those screw top type thermos and the top goes in place with about a quarter turn. And coffee keeps it's just made taste unlike with leaving a pot of coffee on the coffee maker's hot plate. And if it matters to you it does look nice, but I bought it for it's heat holding ability and ease of pour, not for it's looks.
