Outstanding! Wonderful recipes, and very warmly written.Jul 22, 1998
I love this book. It was written by a woman who loves to cook, and who was a professional baker for some time. It is a labor of love, with warm descriptions of how she started out, how popular her creations were, et cetera. This book has been compared to those of Maida Heatter, and criticized for not being as clearly written (since Ms. Heatter is famous for her attention to detail, as well as her excellent recipes). Nevertheless, I love this book, and have been delighted with every recipe I've tried. Moreover, since the book contains significantly fewer recipes, it is comprised solely of the best of the best. I, myself, consider that a huge advantage. Everything I've tried has been wonderful, and I particularly like the author's warm writing style. I highly recommend this book.

Grandma Rose's Book of Sinfully Delicious Cakes, Cookies, PiJun 27, 2002
By Steve Beedle One of America's best kept secrets! There are some knockout recipes in here. She's not an expert at explaining some of her recipes and doesn't go into tecnique much, but believe me, there are some incredible desserts in this wonderful book.

Out of this worldFeb 25, 1999
My mother purchased this book years ago and I cherished it and looked for it for years and bought it the minute I found it. There is not a bad recipe in the book. All are wonderfully old-world and tasty. I have gotten many compliments on baked goods from Grandma Rose's book. I highly recommend this to anyone who has a great love of pastries and desserts. It is truly a treasure.

Great cookbookAug 29, 2004
By Suzanne This book is out of print. If you can find it - buy it!! It has a wide variety of very good recipes - and they all turn out great. I had the book 15 yrs ago and sold it at a garage sale. I recently wanted some recipes from it that I used to make - and found it on Amazon. I am delighted to have the book again.

Grandma Rose sold Paula Deen her first pound of butterSep 07, 2009

Grandma Rose was Paula Deen while Paula was still sacking sandwiches. Her recipes are a bit complex, but I have yet to find one that is not incredibly tasty. It is an older book, but there are recipes for things you remember and want to eat again. Her Boston Cream Pie (listed under pies, not cakes) is the best I've ever tasted. Her cinnamon rolls predate cinnabon and are unbelievable fresh out of the oven. Get this cookbook. You will use it again and again.
