5Chocolate Macaroons!Apr 20, 2010
I must confess that I bought this book JUST for the Chocolate Macaroon recipe! Pure heaven! Worth the price of the book if it saves me a trip from Campbell to Santa Cruz! And to be fair to Gayle's Bakery, every time I drive even near to the area, my brain tells me "Go to Gayle's!" It is a Bakery to behold if you are ever in Capitola! Fun book and recipes are straight forward! Get the book, and then go to Gayles to have a macaroon and a cup of coffee to enjoy while you look at the book!

5Worth the money.Mar 04, 2010
I found this book at my school library and had to have it. The recipes are great.

5The best cookies ever!Nov 23, 2009
I just got this cookbook and am in love with it already. It not only has recipes, it give techniques to help you succeed. I live about 20 minutes from Gayles bakery. They have amazing treats and their cookbook is amazing too. My first attempt at White Chocolate chip Macadamia nut cookies was a complete success and I have to say they tasted just like the ones at Gayles Bakery. Anyone who loves baking should have this cookbook!

2No baker's percentagesMar 22, 2005
I cannot understand why books like this are still published. It uses the cup-system, which is a way of measuring ingredients by volume. This yields inaccurate recipes, period. And it took me quite a while to figure out the corrrect percentages to get a recipe right. They are only usable for someone who is either very eperienced or happy to find out by trial and error (or someone who uses exactly the same flour at the same time of year in the same region as the author).

Why, Gayle and Ortiz, why?

2 stars for the effort and nice printing.
