5Multi-pack of introductory manualsJul 11, 2007
By P. K. Shontz
I was pleasantly surprised to order what I thought was 1 book and receive a 6-pack of these 40-page booklets. These would make great gifts for friends interested in learning the basics. It covers baking, leveling, stacking, icing the cakes; preparing the cake board, making and coloring buttercream and royal icings, preparing bags, filling with icing; bag position; decorating with various tips (round, star, petal, leaf). Then it gives instructions for specific projects including a bear cake, fish cake, swirl-topped cake, lettering, cupcakes, clown cake, balloon cake, star cake, castle cake, flower/heart cake, baseball cake, big cookie.

4First Time at Cake DecoratingJul 05, 2007
By LynnRT
This was my first time at cake decorating and I was determined that this summer would be the summer for this project. I searched for several books, but in the end the cheapest book I bought (this one) was the one that I turned to when I wasn't sure about the process. It also gave me the confidence to get creative.

I purchased this booklet to share with my 10 year old aspiring chef and it fit the bill perfectly. Shows how many decorating projects are done with easy to read and understand directions plus lots of pictures. Recommended resource for beginners of all ages!

2Cake decorating "booklet".Nov 06, 2009
By D. Baker "Absynth"
This was included in a Wilton decorating kit I bought from Michaels priced at around $32.00. I was dissapointed that the book was so small. I am suspicious about the 5 star reviews...
I bought the 53 piece Cake Decorating set which included this "book". First of all the book is 40 pages. I will give it credit that it DOES have decent instruction on trimming and icing a layer cake, as well as good instruction on using piping bags. Where it starts to fizzle is in the actual using of the tips and creating designs, flowers etc. ALSO it comes with disposable bags, and touts in the booklet that all students beginner to advanced use these disposable bags, but in the instructions it shows someone using a real professional bag. I note this because their technique for filling the bag with icing is MUCH MUCH more difficult in using the disposable bags (in fact, I have vowed to buy only real professional bags from now on)! There are literally 7 1/2 (TINY) pages of decorating instruction. Weak. very weak. There is a recipe for royal icing... but I wouldn't recommend you use it.
I did... and it was not good. Anyway... the book is.. not a total waste of money, but I personally wouldn't be happy paying more than $4.00 total cost with shipping for it.

1Don't Waste Your Time!Aug 12, 2009
By M. L. McClaskey
This product was a waste of time. I bought it for 3.99, which I thought was a good deal. Little did I realize it was just too good to be true... This is a small pamphlet-like booklet that is the equivalent of something you would get free with a cake decorating kit or something. I bought this as a gift for my sister who just started to decorate cakes, and am so embarrassed... I don't even know if I can give it to her...
